Group Captain Angad Prathap is one of the four astronauts prepared to go into space in 2025 by the Gaganyaan mission. He was born in Prayagraj (formerly Allahabad), Uttar Pradesh, on 17 July 1982, he graduated from the National Defence Academy and received his commission on 18 December 2004 in the fighter stream of the Indian Air Force (IAF). Serving as a flying instructor and a test pilot, he boasts around 2,000 hours of flying experience. His flight repertoire includes various aircraft such as Su-30 MKI, MiG-21, MiG-29, Jaguar, Hawk, Dornier, An-32, and more.
His journey to becoming an astronaut for the Gaganyaan Mission started with intensive training at the Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center (GCTC) in Russia, lasting approximately 13 months, despite the challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic. Read more on the Times of India article.
