IM-2 Athena Live Updates

IM-2 Athena Live Updates and Mission Progress of Intuitive Machines IM-2 mission from launch to lunar landing and beyond.

IM-2 Athena Live Updates

The IM-2 mission’s lunar lander, Athena, successfully touched down approximately 250 meters from its intended landing site in the Mons Mouton region near the lunar south pole, within a crater. This marks the southernmost lunar landing and surface operation ever accomplished.

Athena successfully executed the Descent Orbit Insertion maneuver at 4:03 p.m. IST (4:33 a.m. CST).

5/3/2025

Athena remains in excellent condition while operating in Low Lunar Orbit (LLO). Having completed 24 of her planned 39 orbits, she is awaiting sunrise over the Mons Mouton landing site.

4/3/2025

Flight controllers have confirmed that Athena successfully completed its Lunar Orbit Insertion (LOI) with high precision. The spacecraft’s next planned maneuver, the Descent Orbit Insertion (DOI), is designed to lower its orbit in preparation for the scheduled landing attempt at 11:02 p.m. IST (11:32 a.m. CST) on March 6.

3/3/2025

Flight controllers anticipate that Athena will complete 39 lunar orbits before its designated landing site in the Moon’s south pole region receives sufficient sunlight to support surface operations.

Intuitive Machines has scheduled the landing attempt for March 6 at 10:02 p.m. IST ( 11:32 a.m. CST). Athena successfully achieved its intended circular lunar orbit on March 3 and has begun transmitting its first images from orbit.

3/3/2025

Athena successfully executed its scheduled 492-second main engine Lunar Orbit Insertion (LOI) burn at 5:57 p.m. Indian Standard Time (6:27 a.m. CST) on March 3, achieving a stable lunar orbit. The spacecraft remains in excellent health and is expected to capture and transmit lunar orbit imagery over the next two days in preparation for its planned landing attempt on March 6.

2/3/2025

Athena successfully executed its third and final planned Trajectory Correction Maneuver (TCM) at 11:48 p.m. IST (12:18 PM CST) on March 2, further refining its trajectory ahead of Lunar Orbit Insertion (LOI). The lander is now prepared for its scheduled LOI maneuver on March 3, which will be the longest firing of its main engine so far.

1/3/2025

Athena successfully completed its second planned Trajectory Correction Maneuver (TCM) at 10:30 PM IST (11:00 AM CT) on March 1. The lander has also downlinked four times the amount of data compared to the entire IM-1 mission.

28/2/2025

Flight controllers utilized Intuitive Machines’ Lunar Data Network to command Athena’s first Trajectory Correction Maneuver (TCM) at 10:30 PM Indian Standard Time (11:00 AM CT), refining its trajectory. Athena successfully achieved the target velocity change of 9.5 m/s with an accuracy of 0.38 m/s by executing a six-second full-thrust burn of its main engine. The maneuver proceeded as planned, and Athena remains in excellent health

28/2/2025

IM-2 Athena has completed half of its journey to the Moon and continues to communicate with the Mission Operations Center in Houston while preparing for upcoming Trajectory Correction Maneuvers (TCMs).

27/2/2025

IM-2 Athena Live Updates, Athena successfully established radio communication with the Mission Operations Center, achieved a stable attitude, and activated its solar charging system.
