To address threats to the nation and fulfill India’s ambition of becoming a strong country. India will launch 50 AI-powered spy satellites for geo-intelligence gathering in the next 5 years. The Chairman of ISRO, S. Somnath, stated that ISRO has already planned the configuration of 50 satellites for launch in the next five years.
The initiative includes establishing a satellite layer in various orbits with the capability to monitor troop movements and capture images of extensive areas spanning thousands of kilometers.
Specification of ISRO’s AI-Powered Spy Satellites
Mr. Somanath emphasized the significance of enhancing satellite capabilities in detecting changes. He advocated for greater integration of AI and data-driven methodologies to analyze data, minimize data downloads, and extract only essential information.
ISRO is set to deploy a constellation of 50 AI-powered spy satellites, spanning from Geostationary Equatorial Orbit (GEO) to Lower Earth Orbit (LEO), including the very low Earth orbit. This comprehensive satellite network enables critical assessments in situations requiring meticulous evaluation.
The satellite constellation will facilitate communication between satellites. For instance, if a satellite in a Geostationary Equatorial Orbit (GEO) at 36,000 kilometers detects an event, it can provide a broad overview. In response to identified activities, another satellite in a lower orbit can be tasked to conduct a more detailed examination, subsequently providing additional information.
These satellites are designed for imaging extensive areas, covering thousands of kilometers rather than small regions. The aim is to routinely encompass entire borders in daily cycles, showcasing the remarkable capability that ISRO is developing.
Utilizing the multi-orbit configuration enables a thorough evaluation of diverse situations by integrating optical, synthetic aperture radar (SAR), thermal, and other technologies.
The head of ISRO stressed that India’s current satellite fleet, numbering 54, is insufficient for a nation aspiring to achieve power and strength. These AI-powered spy satellites of India are coming in the next 5 years.
