Indian Space Research Organization gets a prestigious Leif Erikson Lunar Prize from the Exploration Museum in Husavik ( Iceland ) for the success of the Chandrayaan 3 mission. This prize was received by the Ambassador of India to Iceland B. Shyam on behalf of ISRO. On this occasion, ISRO Chairman S. Somanath conveyed his gratitude through a video message.
Now ISRO gets this award for 2023 for the success of Chandrayaan-3. The Chandrayaan-3 is the mission of India to land a lander Vikram and deploy a rover called Pragyan near the South Pole of the moon. India became 4th country who land on the moon. Rusian spacecraft Luna 25 also tried to land before the Chandrayaaan-3 but crashed during landing on the moon’s surface.
Leif Erikson Lunar Prize
Since 2015, the Exploration Museum has presented the Leif Erikson Award every year. This prize, named after Leif Erikson, a Norse explorer believed to be the first European to step onto continental America, is given in recognition of outstanding achievements. Erikson’s feat predates Christopher Columbus’s expedition by almost four centuries.
